Simple but Elegant Wedding Flowers

The first time I met Monica and Edward on their wedding day, August 28, 2009. They were a bride and groom that came to San Francisco all the way from London. How romantic! She was married at the Clift Hotel.

When Monica first contacted me by email about designing flowers for her wedding, I realized she had a specific idea of the type of flowers she wanted — simple, but elegant — a style that is popular now. The color theme she chose was magenta raspberry pink, and she liked calla lilies and cymbidium orchids.

I was fortunate to design wedding flowers for a nice couple visiting from London. Luckily Monica found my web site and because we had a similar floral design aesthetic she hired me.

Purple Callalilies Wedding

Halley and Brendan's wedding was August 15th at Aqua Hotel in Mill Valley. I met Halley the first time at her sister's wedding, whose floral arrangements I also designed. Halley likes a very dramatic color theme: purple, burgundy, and lime green. Her bouquet was cute, but sophisticated; I used purple callalilies, burgundy dahlias, and chocolate cosmos.

Event Flower Arrangements in Japan Town, San Francisco

"Edo shigusa" (The manner of merchants) lecture took place at Kabuki Hotel on August 4th, 2009. I was invited by Piazza Trading Co. in Japan to decorate the sakura lounge room. As you may have guessed, I designed all flower arrangements with a Japanese theme. Technique and design emphasis are focussed on line, woven leave techniques, and spacial arrangement of flowers ( called "ma" in Japan ) These designs are not strictly Ikebana, but rather contemporary floral design.

Spring Flower Peony Wedding Bouquet

Here is an example of a beautiful peonies wedding bouquet.

It's true — one of my favorite flowers is peony. It is more common to see peonies during the spring season in the San Francisco Bay Area, but luckily I can still get them imported during the winter season.

Cindy and Inserb's wedding was May 24th at Julia Morgan Ballroom in San Francisco. Look at those beautiful peonies!!!

Photos are by Tim Sohn Studio He is very friendly and a nice person!!

Decorate a House for Sell with Flowers

When one decorates a house that is for sell it is called “staging a house.” Many decorators will use plants or silk flowers. One of my customers, who was selling her house, loves fresh flowers and asked me to design some floral arrangements for her house staging. For one of the arrangements I wanted to create an interesting accent so I wove palm leaf. I placed it on the entrance side table and it immediately brightened the house.

Table Floral Arrangements

This flower arrangement was for a customer’s house party in Woodside. Their rooms are mostly warm colors — butter yellow, rusty brown, and gold. I didn’t want to use dark colors for the flower arrangement so I picked peach and yellow as main colors and used ranunculus and peach roses. These turned out bright warm and matched the room — a nice match for a spring party.

Traditional Red Rose Flower Arrangement for Customer’s Party!

This unique flower arrangement was for a customer’s party at SFO Marriott Hotel (San Francisco, CA). She had a party for 3 days straight. Can you party that long?

Her theme was red roses with green accents and branches, so I decided to design a party arrangement in a modern floral style. Yet I used traditional red roses because it is still beautiful, even though many people now prefer dark red roses like a Black Magic Rose.
I realize that even though red roses are popular to the point of being cliche, these floral arrangements still turned out nice!! The rose I used is called Forever Young and like the name, they last much longer.
